About the National Youth Parliament Scheme 2023

The Government of India has introduced the National Youth Parliament Scheme with the aim of promoting youth engagement in parliamentary activities. The scheme facilitates mock sessions of parliamentary proceedings for students in schools and colleges. This initiative not only familiarizes students with the functioning of the parliament but also encourages them to articulate their perspectives.

Registration and Selection Process of the National Youth Parliament Scheme

Institutions can register for the National Youth Parliament Scheme through the portal. The registration is carried out using the Aadhar credentials of the principal, head, registrar, or dean. The duration of a parliamentary session is one hour, during which participants can express their views in any scheduled language, with Hindi and English being preferred. These sessions are conducted within the premises of the respective institutions and involve around 50 to 55 students.

  • Students from class 9th to 12th, as well as those pursuing graduation and post-graduation, are eligible to participate. Schools can select students from classes 9th to 12th for the “Kishore Sabha” of the youth parliament, with the principal’s approval. Similarly, universities and colleges can select undergraduate and postgraduate students for the “Tarun Sabha,” subject to the registrar’s approval.
  • Participating students receive certificates of participation, and the responsible teacher or institution head also receives a certificate of appreciation.

  • “To ensure the effective implementation of the National Youth Parliament Scheme, educational institutions have the opportunity to extend invitations to individuals of high stature such as Members of Parliament (MPs), former MPs, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), former MLAs, Members of Legislative Council (MLCs), or former MLCs, who will serve as distinguished guests. Their role will involve overseeing the proceedings of the youth parliament sessions conducted within the institution.
  • Under this initiative, Kishor Sabha will be organized for students ranging from 9th to 12th grade, while Tarun Sabha will cater to those pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Institutions desiring to take part in this endeavor will need to complete their registration on the designated web portal. Once the registration process is successfully completed, these institutions will gain the authorization to host youth parliament programs on their premises.
  • Upon the successful culmination of the youth parliament session, participating students will be awarded certificates of participation, while the supervising teachers or institution heads will receive certificates of appreciation. Furthermore, institutions will be responsible for uploading comprehensive reports, photographs, and videos of the youth parliament sessions they conduct onto the web portal. This data will undergo careful examination and verification by the concerned ministry.”
